Matthew 2:1-2

The Visit of the Wise Men

In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, ‘Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage.’

Reflection by Janet Derby

It is interesting that the wise men traveled such a distance to pay homage to a baby. It’s not like the child would be able to impart any wisdom to them at this point in his life. Yet, I understand why infants draw us to them. We are fortunate to be spending the new year holiday with the youngest members of our family, our newest grandchild and great grandchild. It is a wonderful reminder of the hope of new generations and God’s covenant of continuing love and grace.

God of Life,

Thank you for children who remind us of the promise of the future. Help us to appreciate and care for them. Amen.
