Worship This Week - May 20, 2012
I’m sitting at a table in one of my
favorite Louisville restaurants: Lynn’s Paradise Cafe! Allen introduced me to it
when we were dating. There’s a tree in the middle of the place with carrots,
sheep, fish, and balloons hanging off it…it’s that kind of
place.
I’m on my way home from the
monastery…but have stopped here to meet a friend who just lost her brother.
It’ll be good to see Jane.
When I get back in the car, guess who
I’m going to dial up on the iPod? John Coltrane! I’ve been reading about John in
prep for Sunday’s jazz service. I can’t wait to share with you some of what I’m
learning!
Sunday’s going to be great! We’ll be
doing jazz! There will be a little bit at 8:30 and a lot at 10:00. Be sure to
bring your groove to church on Sunday. You’re going to need
it!
See you Sunday!

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Pilgrimage Work Day Next Saturday
Today, May 19th at 9:00 a.m., we have scheduled a Pilgrimage work day. If you can partake
for a few hours, we will have a lot of little tasks that need to be addressed
and done. There is some outside and inside work that we would
like to complete-also, this is a kid-friendly event and their help is always
welcome.
770-722-4611.
Jazz Sunday Tomorrow!
This Sunday’s worship
service will be focusing on jazz music. The choir will sing 5 anthems that are
in a jazz style, Monty Wyne will perform, Brad Ketch will accompany the choir
with his harmonica for one of the anthems, Chuck Jones will accompany the choir
on alto sax for the Introit, and Jared Leach, a student from KSU majoring in
jazz guitar will play a couple of pieces. Please plan to attend and enjoy this
special service of music as we approach the end of the choir year.
Family Picnic
Following Jazz worship Sunday, we hope you will join us for the Annual Parish Life Family
Picnic. Parish Life will provide hotdogs and buns, and you are encouraged to
bring your favorite side dish, drink or dessert to share. Invite your friends
and family to enjoy a great afternoon of good food and fellowship!
Help Wanted!
As you all are aware, Kenneth is recovering from surgery which he had undergone this past
week. Theresa has something she needs to do this Monday, May 21st, and is in
need of someone to stay with Kenneth at her home for a couple of hours. She can
be flexible with either morning or afternoon assistance, and Kenneth would need
only moderate help getting up to use the bathroom.
If you are able to help Theresa, please call her at 678-677-4707.
Summer Spirit Sessions
Last Sunday we celebrated our Sunday school year, which also meant the end of Sunday school
during the summer months.
But that doesn’t mean our search for spiritual community has to end. This summer the CE Committee
is looking for volunteers to facilitate groups of many kinds and folks who are
interested in participating. Ideas include movie or book discussions, dinner
groups, field or camping trips; however the spirit moves you! If you are
interested in helping or attending a group, please email Janet Derby at
ce@pilgrimageucc.org. There is also a sign-up sheet in the Narthex. Times and
places will be determined by the participants once a group has been formed.
Adopt A Volunteer
Now’s the time to act!
For your $10 donation, you will receive these fabulous benefits: decorated name badge (to
wear June 3 & 10), a pre-addressed note, your name on the Hall of Fame, and
a VBS email update. A $20 donation gets you all that plus a VBS t-shirt
designed by Pilgrimage kids! See Janet Derby after the service or contact Karen
Clark at 770-973-9297 or at karensclark@comcast.net.
If You Can Sew, VBS Needs Your Help!
Anyone who would like to make
school bags for the VBS children to fill during that week will find instructions
available on the table in the Narthex. We will need 40 bags, so assistance with
this task will be greatly appreciated.
Pathways Program
The Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ, Lancaster Theological Seminary, and
The Center for Progressive Renewal are joining efforts in creating an
outstanding ON-LINE PROGRAM that has its foundation in Theology Among the People
(TAP), a proven program of lay theological education with a reputation for
excellence. It is called PATHWAYS: Theological Education for a Changing World.
Knowing that all of us are called to ministry through our baptism, the program
is for individuals who want to understand their faith more deeply and explore
their call more fully in the context of an intentional learning community. We
are now recruiting for the next group, to begin in July 2012. More information
about the PATHWAYS program can be found at www.pathwaystheologicaleducation.org
or by emailing info@pathwaystheologicaleducation.org.
MUST Lunch
We are getting ready for the MUST lunch on May 29th. The sign-up board is in the Narthex where
you can volunteer to serve, bring in chicken or other food items, or provide
cash. Please see Fran Howard if you have any questions.
