The United Church of Christ
Cameron
Trimble, a member and ministerial student of Pilgrimage UCC, explains the United Church
of Christ.
I was first introduced to the United Church of
Christ when I read a sign that said, "Never place a period where
God has placed a comma — God is still speaking."
Having been a member of another mainline
denomination that had a rich history but little connection with
the life of real people, this idea — this radical idea — that
God was in fact still speaking to us was a transformative notion
for me. God is still talking to us, still revealing new insights
to us, still drawing us to deeper and deeper places of
understanding and revelation. I knew when I read that statement
that I wanted to be a part of this Church.

The United Church of Christ is a denomination
that prides itself on being the first — we were the first to
ordain African American pastors, the first to ordain women, the
first to fight for social justice as a community mandate and the
first to take a stand against racism and the many other forms of
oppression. I am proud of these historic stands, and I want to
be a part of this history.
Most importantly, the United Church of Christ is
a place where you can come as you are — poor, rich, healthy,
sick, straight, gay, single, married, white, black, Asian,
Hispanic, male, female — you are welcome here.
If you need a place to belong, you are welcome
here. If you need a community who loves and supports you no
matter where you are on your spiritual journey, you are welcome
here. We have learned in our history that we need one another
and the different gifts we bring as we journey through life. If
you are looking for a place to belong, we hope to see you soon.
